We recently looked at some art work by Wassily Kandinsky. The children enjoyed discussing the colours and shapes He used to create abstract paintings. They then created their own Kandinsky circles cutting and layering two tone paper completely independently!! What a fanatastic effect! Keep your eyes peeled for this technique in future displays and creations.  (Child independently spelt Kandinsky phonetically!)

People who help us

We enjoyed having our Lollipop lady visit for the afternoon on Friday. The children thought of questions to ask Debbie and enjoyed hearing all about how Debbie enjoys helping the children cross the road.

What do you do when you are not a lollipop lady?

Do you enjoy helping people?

How do you stay warm in Winter?

How do you get the cars to stop?

Has a car ever not stopped?

The children were particularly concerned for Debbie’s safety and we discussed the importance of Debbie’s Hi-Vis jacket.

The Library Bus

Yesterday we had a visit from the Library Bus. We all had the chance to visit the bus and select a couple of books to be kept in our School Library.  During the Summer term the children will be able to visit the Library and borrow a book each week.

We have recently been learning about the author Julia Donaldson and we found a few new stories to add to our collection including the Scarecrow Wedding.

On World Book Day FSW and FSH up cycled two old chairs and made them into reading chairs. One of our chairs became the Gruffalo and the other transformed into Stick Man! We can’t wait to start using them in the classroom!

Harriet the Hen!

Yesterday we had a special visit from Harriet the Hen. Harriet was one of our chicks from last year that was homed by Miss Blake. The children enjoyed asking questions about Harriet and if she liked to skip and run! The children could not believe how fast our chicks will grow in a year! They showed particular concern for any ‘sly fox’ that might eat Harriet!

Nine new additions!!

We are thrilled to introduce our nine new chicks!! They hatched out on Monday evening! They are very healthy and loud!! The children are enjoying looking after the chicks, changing their food and water. If you have the facilities to rehome any of the chickens from the 5th Februrary please see Foundation Stage.

Please post any funny name suggestions below.

Keep ‘clucking’ on our blog for further photographs!

New Arrivals!

It has been a very egg-citing (apologies) morning in EYFS as we have had a special delivery! Over the next two weeks we are looking forward to observing the eggs in the incubator. We have so far learnt that we need to make sure the temperature stays at 37.7oC and that the water needs to be topped up to keep the egg shells soft.

We will keep you posted on any hatching news!!

Little Donkey, Little Donkey…

As you might have guessed E.Y.F.S are singing Little Donkey this year in the Christmas Nativity! Please support us by helping your child learn the lyrics as posted below. Thank you.

Little Donkey

Little donkey, little donkey on the dusty road,
Got to keep on plodding on wards with your precious load.

Been a long time, little donkey, through the winters night,
Dont give up now, little donkey, Bethlehems in sight.

CHORUS Ring out those bells tonight,
Bethlehem, Bethlehem.
Follow that star tonight,
Bethlehem, Bethlehem.

Little donkey, little donkey, had a heavy day,
Little donkey, carry Mary safely on her way.

Little donkey, little donkey, journeys end is near,
There are wise men waiting for a sign to bring them here.

Do not falter little donkey, theres a star ahead,
It will guide you, little donkey, to a cattle shed

Ring out those bells tonight,
Bethlehem, Bethlehem.
Follow that star tonight,
Bethlehem, Bethlehem.

Little donkey, little donkey, had a heavy day,
Little donkey, carry Mary safely on her way.

Science Roadshow!

This morning the children have really enjoyed experiencing science first hand and through the enthusiasm of Adrian , our roadshow host. The children had the opportunity to explore light, shadow and sounds through exciting experiments.

Ask your child what their favourite experiment was. We have posted some photos as a reminder.
